Our History

The Wabash County Health Department was formed in 1983 by Wabash County Board of Commissioners Resolution. In 1989, the Wabash County Board of Health in cooperation with the Wabash County Community Mental Health Board added Outpatient Behavioral Health Services. In order to meet Certified Health Department standards and receive a State of Illinois Local Health Protection Grant we must provide at least the following services:

• Food Sanitation: Restaurant Inspections/Consultations, FoodBorne illness investigations, Provide Public Information
• Private Water: Inspection of new wells, Homeowner problem consultation/complaint investigations, Abandoned well sealing monitoring
• Private Sewage: Inspection of new system installations, Homeowner problem consultation/complaint investigations
• Infectious Disease: Communicable disease investigations/control measures, Immunizations for children and adults, Educational efforts to target groups and the community

The Health Department currently employs approximately 24 full time staff. The current budget is approximately 1.4 million dollars.

Certifications

The Wabash County Health Department is Certified by the Illinois Department of Public Health. The Behavioral Health Division is Accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.
