Blood Draw for Lab Testing

Wabash County Health Department is a LabCard collection site.

  • Clients need to bring in a doctors order.

  • If you need bloodwork and do not have insurance, or have insurance with a high deductible we have a self-pay service.

  • If you have private insurance or Medicaid, our services cannot be billed. Only LabCard can be accepted or you must self-pay.

  • LabCard and Self-Pay blood draws are by appointment only. Please call 618-263-3873. As a reminder, we do need all doctors orders to draw.

What To Know-Before You Go

To Fast or Not to Fast?
Many tests do not require fasting, but lipid panels (also known as cholesterol tests), glucose testing, and stool tests are a few that do. If your provider orders blood work during a visit, be sure to ask your provider if you need to fast beforehand.

Fasting Requirements
Fasting means that, with the exception of water, you refrain from eating or drinking for a minimum of 8 hours (10 to 12 hours is preferable) prior to the draw. This means no coffee or tea, so save that morning trip to the café for after your draw. Taking your vitamins or medications is OK, though.

Water is Vital
Drinking water is highly encouraged before a blood draw. Being well-hydrated means your veins are full and easier for the phlebotomist (the person who draws your blood) to find. In essence, being well-hydrated could mean a quicker, less painfu

TB Testing

"Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease that is spread through the air from one person to another.

A POSITIVE SKIN TEST: "means the person's body was infected with the TB Bacteria. Additional tests will be needed to determine if the person has latent TB infection or TB disease. A healthcare worker will then provide treatment as needed" (this also is a communicable disease that the WCHD will have to report to the state and follow up with the client).

A NEGATIVE SKIN TEST: "means the person's body did not react to the test, and that latent TB infection or TB disease is not likely."

To Schedule a TB test, please call the
